Mixed media / Gouache on cardboard, nude model, title "Sitzendes Mädchen", 67x48, signed "S, 1911,". During a search of Mr. "M.S." home in October 2007 was found five counterfeit artwork. An oil painting picturing Edvard Munch, an oil painting picturing August Strindberg and four artworks picturing Egon Schiele. In addition, documents and photographs as well as a sales mission, dated 4 July 2007, from Mr. M.S. to Mr. M.K. regarding Egon Schiele. On the reverse of the painting is a text that is applied to give "provenance", as if the painting had previously been in different people's hands. Mr. MS states that he received the painting as a gift by the father of a student as a replacement for a restoration sometime in the 1970s when he studied at the Art Academy. According to Mr M.S: "I bought the three Egon Schiele drawings for 20,000 SEK sometime in the 1980s by a guy at a friend's gallery but I do not remember the name of either the guy or the gallery." Court: Mr. MS has provided the painting with fake provenance, texts, labels, notes and documents with the intention to appear genuine. The investigation shows that neither painting or signature is not an original work of Egon Schiele. The crime is aggravated fraud, with intent to lull prospective buyers that this is a genuine work of Egon Schiele. Criminal sanctions, one year in prison.
