Oil on panel, abstract still life, signed "E.Thoren", 41x33 cm. The painting was seized in a small auction house in Stockholm, May 2008. Several people had questioned the painting's authenticity. Including claimed that the painting had previously been unsigned. The painting had been submitted by the Swedish Pawnshop in Malmö, Sweden. On the back of the painting, the text "Price 47.000 SEK." It had pledged by a private person. In police questioning he says he is an self-taught art expert since many years and he is now a partner in an antique shop in Malmö, Sweden. He states that he bought this painting on the internet trading site ”Blocket” in Sweden for approximately 16,000 to 22,000 SEK. The district court's decision: Signature forgery, aggravated fraud. The painting has not been performed by Esaias Thoren nor signed by him.
Oil on canvas, signed "E.Thorén", 90x35 cm. The painting presented to Esaias Thorén certifying that he has not performed this painting was and that he never painted in that style. "The painting appears to be signed in the latter. In ultraviolet light stands the signature color different to the rest of the painting. The District Court's assessment: The painting is a forgery.
