Born in St. Petersburg, Charles Lidderdale was a genre painter, particularly noted for his paintings of girls in landscapes, generally single subjects. He first exhibited his work in 1851 and until 1893, his work was shown extensively at the British Institute, Suffolk Street and the Royal Academy. He first exhibited at the latter in 1856 when he was living in Charlotte Street. Later he moved to Maida Vale, then to St. Johns Wood, and finally in 1881 to Hampstead.
