Studerede (frem til 1948) typografi og bogillustration på École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture et des Arts décoratifs (La Cambre), Bruxelles.
Biografi
I 1947 får Alechinsky sin første separatudstilling med malerier i Bruxelles. 1949 bliver han medlem af COBRA-bevægelsen (Karel Appel, Constant, Corneille, Christian Dotremont, Asger Jorn, Carl-Henning Pedersen , Reinhoud m.fl.) Han er sammen med sin kone Micky medstifter af ”Les Ateliers du Marais” i Bruxelles, et kunstnerkollektiv og en art ”forskningscenter" for COBRA.
Alechinsky bliver i denne periode kraftigt inspireret af Jorn og de former et varmt og langt venskab. Efter COBRA-gruppen’s opløsning stifter Jorn den internationale bevægelse, ”Mouvement international pour un Bauhaus imaginiste contre un Bauhaus imaginaire”, hvori han som det naturligste, inddrager sin ven Alechinsky.
Pierre Alechinsky etablerer et atelier i Paris og arbejder i trykkeribranchen for at lære tryk og ætsninger. Han tager efterfølgende på ophold rundt omkring i verden, hvilket blandt andet bringer ham til fjernøsten og et ophold i New York, hvor han danner et venskab med Walasse Ting og bruger hans atelier som base til udstillingerne i byen.
Børge Birch, der har fulgt Jorn og COBRA-gruppens tilblivelse, bliver også god ven med Pierre Alechinsky og de starter et mangeårigt samarbejde. I 1964 har Alechinsky sin første af adskillige udstillinger i Galerie Birch, der bliver fulgt op i årene 1968-70-72-73-75-76-78-79-82-85-87-2008
Som en hyldest til sin ven Asger Jorn, udfører han i 1995 - Pensée de pinceau - en væg af keramiske fliser på Silkeborg Kunstmuseum. www.silkeborgkunstmuseum.dk

Education
In 1944 he enlist and study graphic reproduction and book illustration at the École Nationale Supérieure d´Architecture et des Arts décoratifs (La Cambre), in Brussels. He quits in 1948 to pursue a career as a creative artist.
Biography
Pierre Alechinsky starts early on with a keen interest in art. He starts to paint and already in 1947, he gets his first solo exhibition in Brussels, Belgium. 1949 is the year when he becomes a member in the Cobra Movement, alongside Karel Appel, Corneille, Constant, Christian Dotremont, Asger Jorn, Carl-Henning Pedersen, Reinhoud and others.
Together with his wife Micky he is co-founder of "Les Ateliers du Marais" in Brussels, a creative collective for artists and a sort of "research centre" for the members of COBRA.
It is in this period that Alechinsky is greatly influenced by Jorns work and they became very warm and long-time friends. After the Cobra Movement’s disintegration, Asger Jorn forms another international group, the "Mouvement international pour un Bauhaus imaginiste contre un Bauhaus imaginaire" and as if was the most normal thing in the world, Jorn asks his friend Alechinsky to join him.
Pierre Alechinsky establishes a studio in Paris and works in the printmaking business so he can learn all about prints and etchings. Subsequently he travels around in the world which brings him to the Far East and later New York, where he meets and forms a friendship with Walasse Ting, using his studio as a base for seeing all the exhibitions in town.
Børge Birch, whom had followed Jorn and the creation of the COBRA-movement, became also friend with Pierre Alechinsky and they started a long-standing collaboration. In 1964 has Alechinsky his first exhibition in Galerie Birch followed by numerous exhibitions in the years 1968-70-72-73-75-76-78-79-82-85-87-2008.
In 1995, as a tribute to his friend Asger Jorn, he perform - Pensée de pinceau – a wall of ceramic tiles at the Silkeborg Art Museum ( www.silkeborgkunstmuseum.dk ).
Galerie Birch have followed and collaborated with Pierre Alechinsky, right from the beginning of the COBRA-movement and have a thorough knowledge to this wonderful Belgian artist with show activities all over the world. Pierre Alechinsky
Le peintre Pierre Alechinsky naît en 1927 à Bruxelles. En 1944, Alechinsky intègre l’Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture et des Arts Décoratifs de Bruxelles pour y poursuivre des études d’illustration de livres et de typographie.
Pierre Alechinsky rejoint en 1949 le groupe "CoBrA" qui prône le détachement du Surréalisme et le retour vers l’Expressionnisme. En 1951, une bourse d’études du gouvernement français mène l’artiste à Paris.
Pierre Alechinsky fait en 1954 la connaissance du peintre chinois Walasse Ting qui l’incite à voyager dans l’Extrême Orient. Profondément touché par la calligraphie japonaise, Pierre Alechinsky tourne un film au Japon sur l’art d’écrire, pour lequel il reçoit en 1957 un prix spécial lors du Festival international du film d’art de Bergamo.
Après son voyage en Asie, l’artiste rejoint le comité de direction du Salon de Mai. En 1960, Alechinsky reçoit à New York le prix Hallmark. L’artiste s’installe en 1963 à Bougival, près de Paris. Dans les années qui suivent, de nombreux voyages mènent Pierre Alechinsky à diverses destinations, dont le Mexique, la Laponie, la Turquie et également New York à plusieurs reprises.
En 1970, l’artiste se voit confier la commande de la décoration intérieure d’un Boeing 747 d’Air France. Le musée Louisiana de Humlebaek, Danemark, lui consacre en 1975 une salle. La même année, le peintre brûle 200 de ses œuvres conservées qu’il considère comme inachevées. L’artiste est honoré par de nombreuses distinctions pour son œuvre.
Ainsi, il reçoit entre autres en 1966 un prix lors de la Triennale de la gravure en Belgique, en 1968 le prix Marzotto en Italie et en 1976 le prix Andrew W. Mellon du Carnegie Museum of Art de Pittsburgh pour son œuvre complète.
En 1983, Pierre Alechinsky est nommé professeur et responsable d’un cours de peinture à l’Ecole Nationale Supérieure. Le titre de "docteur honoris causa" lui est décerné en 1984 par l’Université de Bruxelles. Alechinsky crée avec Dotremont en 1976 les peintures murales pour le métro de Bruxelles (arrêt Anneessens). Il est chargé en 1985 de la décoration de la salle d’attente du Ministère de la culture à Paris et en 1992 de celle du hall d’entrée du ministère français de l’Education nationale situé rue de Grenelle à Paris. Les travaux de l’artiste sont représentés dans de nombreux musées et collections à travers l’Europe et l’Amérique.

Pierre Alechinsky, belgisk bildkonstnär. Var en av grundarna till den kända Cobragruppen, 1948-1951 , som ville ge direkt uttryck för sin undermedvetna fantasi, utan någon som helst censur från intellektet. Alechinsky visade en sällsynt materialkänsla och lekte fram verk av tillfälliga element, bl.a. i assemblager av naturformer. Han har inte minst ägnat sig åt grafik och torde vara kretsens främste etsare.
