Antonio Bachs CASTERAN
1896–1975, Spain/Cuba

Antonio Bachs Casteran was born in Barcelona, Spain, a april 11, 1896. Nationalized Cuban. Professor of painting, drawing and sculpture of the Academy of San Alejandro in Havana, Cuba. He was a member of the circle of Fine Arts, where he gave his paintings and sculptures, also expounding on the Licezum of Havana, Cuba. Winner of the Bronze Award in the Contest on the monument dedicated to Jose Marti in the Civic Square of Havana, organized by the Government of Fulgencio Batista, in which the winner was A. Sicre. In the Museum of Art of the casa Bacardi in Santiago de Cuba, the Middle East presented a bust of his Son, Manuel Bachs. Another of his works was a bust of the Maestro Gonzalo Roig, of which he was a companion in the Academy San Alejandro along with his brother Manuel Roig, who would be devoted to decoration of curtains for the Theater. His works include the famous Framboyanes, a table dedicated to Ilarion Cabrizas,famous poet and a portrait of Fabio Fiallo, Dominican Poet, among others. Also participated in collective exhibitions in the halls of National Capitol in Havana, Cuba, together with Victor Manuel and Amelia Pelaez. He died in Santa Maria del Rosario in the Municipality of the City of Havana, Cuba, in May 1975.
