Blinky Palermo (1943-1977)
Born as Peter Schwarze in 1943 in Leipzig, Blinky Palermo was adopted in the same year by the couple Heisterkamp. 1952 the family moved to Münster, where Palermo visited the Werkkunstschule in 1961/1962. He then studied at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf. His first teacher there was Bruno Goller. In 1964 Palermo switched to the class of Joseph Beuys, who appointed him his master student. During his studies he adopted the pseudonym Palermo and thus signed his work. ‘Blinky’ his friends called him. Palermo's work take up on constructivist positions in the art of modernism, but handle them freely in his own style without the strict ideological and theoretical claim. (fea)
