Daniel Ridgway Knight.
Born and trained in Philadelphia, the artist studied at Ecole des Beaux-Arts in France where his fellow classmates included Alfred Sisley and Auguste Renoir. Following the Civil War, he settled permanently in France where his impressionistic paintings of pleasant peasant figures in rural landscape settings earned him great acclaim.
