Oil on canvas, composition with flowers and sun, signed "E Cullberg", 140x100 cm. Ostensibly depicting a genuine painting by the artist Swede Erland Cullberg, (1913-2012). The painting was for sale at auction in Stockholm in 1994 but suspicion of its authenticity arose and it was seized by police. After expert study was judged that the painting was a forgery. In 1986 Moderna Museet in Stockholm had a great exhibition about Erland Cullberg. The exhibition was very popular and acclaimed - prices and demand increased. His paintings began to be forged. Around 100 counterfeits have been found since the late 1980's until today. Probably there are even more on the market. Erland Cullberg paints in an expressive style with violent brush strokes and strong colors, images with a strong psychological depth.
