Hermann Bachmann Biography:
Hermann Bachmann was born as the son of the sculptor and painter Hermann Bachmann in 1922. In the years between 1936 and 1941 he studied at the College of Applied Art in Offenbach am Main. Asides his studies he took private drawing and painting classes from the artist Otto Fischer-Lamberg. As of 1949 he was in contact with the artists Max Pechstein and Karl Hofer. In 1952 his works were shown in Berlin for the first time and he consequently decided to move there in 1953. In 1957 he received the Berlin Art Prize. In the same year he started teaching at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Berlin where he received his professorship in 1961. The Foundation Moritzburg in Halle, Germany owns 22 works from Bachmann’s late period.
