Josva Cristensen was primarily a landscape painter but was also known to do portraits. He moved to the Danish village Skörping Stationsby in 1920. There he did a long series of forest scenes and landscapes from the known Danish mountains “Rebild Bakker” This special location attracted many other Danish artists like Harald Foss, Peder Mønsted, Harald Gjersing, Hjort-Nielsen, Ejnar Gjessing and Kaj Drews. His landscapes were always known to be sunlit and colourful yet during the second world war his landscapes became darker and more melancholic. This painting approximates the later style.
