Thomas WRIGHT

Thomas Wright worked in St. Petersburg between 1822 and 1826 and then again between 1830 and 1845, on the invitation of George Dawe whose sister he was married to. He worked as an engraver, a portrait painter and a miniaturist, and engraved a number of portraits by his brother-in-law, including those that were painted for the 1812 War Gallery in the Winter Palace. He painted a number of portraits of cultural figures of his time, including Pushkin. Wright was a member of the Academy of Art and Sculpture in Stockholm as well as the Academy of Arts in Florence. There is a signed portrait miniature by him preserved in the collection of the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.
